Production Journal 01: MAKING A MOVIE IN SOUTH CAROLINA.

Principal photography has officially kicked off for All That Is Evil, an indie thriller/horror film featuring homegrown talent from around the Palmetto State. Production is set to run throughout the Summer, taking the team to various areas in South Carolina as well as into regions of Western North Carolina.

IN THE WAKE OF A WITCH'S CURSE, BOTH A SHERIFF AND A VENGEFUL WINDOW GRAPPLE WITH THE RESPONSIBILITY OF PROTECTING AN UNEASY COMMUNITY FROM THE ANNUAL ONSLAUGHT THAT PLAGUES THEIR TOWN.

With 2 out of 16 days down, the production team behind the making of All That Is Evil have already filmed in locations such as Inman, SC (near Lake Bowen) and in the historic county of Union, where they were able to shoot at a home which was built in 1818. (Carlisle, SC)

"Our upstate communities are the best in the world. The people that fill them, the small businesses, and the artistry — nothing else competes with what we have here at home."

- Director, Silas James Rowland

Now if you're anxious to follow along, here's some fun photos that were captured on set by Frank Rehak, the Production Sound Mixer & BTS Photographer. (IG: @frankthebunny_)

CARLISLE, SC

Arriving on set, you'll tread down this eery looking pathway.

And then you'll see it.

This property was built in 1818. The team was fortunate enough to connect with William Christopher, the property manager, on an unrelated production. He said that he had a place that could work for the film, and was kind enough to invite Chad Goss & Silas Rowland over for a scout. It was love at first sight.

THE TEAM ARRIVES & LOADS IN

Left to Right: Aaron Blomberg (AD), Andrew McElvery (GAFFER), & Jeffrey Edward Griffith's (DoP) elbow.

It's early but everyone is excited to get to work. For the rest of the day, the team gets to play, crafting and executing ideas that'll get the movie from page to screen.

Erin Phinney (2nd AC)

Erin keeps fire-watch on the camera. She wears many hats on set, some of which can be seen to the left of frame.

Jeffrey Edward Griffith (DoP)
Call me Mr. Flintstone, I can make that.... chair rock.
Aaron Blomberg (AD)

Aaron is a powerful voice on set. He keeps the train moving and knows how to effectively ensure everyone is safe and on equal minds with the course of the day.

Jen Mara (as Sarah Winston)

Left to Right: Aaron Blomberg (AD), Silas James Rowland (DIRECTOR)

"Man, is this shot going to work for this film?" Silas asks. Aaron contemplates and then responds, "I don't know. But these suckers are sure good. You want one? I bought the entire lot of them at the store."

Silas indeed take a lollipop. It was FIRE.

Merritt Vann (as Sheriff James)

Then Merritt interjects... "CAN YOU GUYS JUST GET SHOT?!! Also, save me a lollipop." (This didn't really happen — he was laser focused.)

Tammy Mattox (as Chloe Anderson)

Everyone is always finding a spot to chill between takes. Tammy is on standby ready for showtime at a moments notice.

Jeffrey Edward Griffith (DoP), Silas James Rowland (DIRECTOR)

"But Mr. Director, you can't just call everything a pan." Jeffrey proclaims.

"Why?" Silas inquires.

William Christopher (LOCATION MANAGER)

ACTOR STEVEN CRANE CRASHING THE SET

Aaron Blomberg (AD), Steven Crane (Deputy Wyatt)

Steven Crane (who will be portraying the role of Deputy Wyatt) sneaks on set to see what all the commotion is about. Honestly, he was there to catch the vibes and do a quick wardrobe fitting. The team can't wait to get him in front of the camera.

Avie Pyles (PA), James Pyles (PA)

These two are adored on set. They keep things in order and assist production where it matters most.

Jeffrey Edward Griffith (DoP), Aaron Blomberg (AD), Silas James Rowland (DIRECTOR)

Trying to figure out whats next. And has anyone seen lunch?

Erin Phinney (2nd AC), Kyler Ray (1st AC)

And of course, the cool kids chilling out back.

Jeffrey Edward Griffith (DoP), Andrew McElvery (GAFFER), Kyler Ray (1st AC), Frank Rehak (Production Sound), Aaron Blomberg (AD), Silas James Rowland (DIRECTOR), William Christopher (LOCATION MANAGER)

That's a wrap for the day. Time to have a beer and reconvene in a couple weeks for Days 3 and 4.
