Harold's Restaurant originally opened its doors in 1932 and has been featured on the Food Network. Now, a different production has arrived and aims to feature the establishment, along with a few other areas in Downtown Gaffney, in their independently produced film that's currently shooting principal photography here in the Upstate of South Carolina.
The film entitled All That Is Evil is one of the largest independent films to be produced in South Carolina. It is led by Greenville native Silas James Rowland, who wrote the script and is directing the project. The film is being produced alongside actors Tammy Mattox and Merritt Vann, who also have starring roles in the movie.
WHAT BROUGHT THE PRODUCTION TO GAFFNEY?
The hunt for the perfect location happened earlier this year. The criteria was straightforward:
MAIN STREET ACCESS
RUSTIC CHARM
LOCATED IN THE UPSTATE
A DINER WITH BAR SEATING
Production scouted for weeks searching for a match but continued to come up short. The problem lied in the fact that many restaurants and diners have adopted modern designs which don't feature traditional bar seating. After countless hours of searching pictures online, the team came across Harold's Restaurant.
So the team drove up, talked with the owner, and the rest is history.
"I was blown away by the scale of Gaffney. It's a lot larger than some of the other towns in our area. There's a lot to see. Everywhere you look resembles an Edward Hopper painting — which is exactly what the story called for." - Silas James Rowland, Director
The film is scheduled to premiere locally across Upstate South Carolina and in parts of Western North Carolina later this year. From there, the film is set to release in 2025 and will be available to stream globally.
