From Gaffney to the Big Screen w/ACTOR BILLY JOSEPH, JR.

Today, we ask upstate model & actor Billy Joseph, Jr. all the important questions. This series is all about our wonderful cast members, so follow along as we get to know them better and learn more about their personality, history, and.... celebrity crushes?

ALL THAT IS EVIL is an independent film production currently in principal photography. This ambitious horror/thriller is shooting in the Upstate of South Carolina and in parts of Western North Carolina. Stick around after the interview to learn more about the project.

INTERVIEW WITH BILLY JOSEPH, JR.

Billy, where are you based out of? Is this where you grew up?

"I am based out of Spartanburg... well, technically Cowpens, SC but grew up in Gaffney, SC. Love that the film shot at Harold's Restaurant in Gaffney. Back in the day it was known as Harold Tindal's (or simply Tindal's) but there is a new owner these days. I remember my grandma making my grandpa park around the corner and then walk around to get us a meatball chili burger so that no one would see his truck parked at the pool hall."

How would you describe the industry in your city?

"Hmmm. The film industry of Cowpens consists of one film. It was called THRIVE (written, directed, and produced by Jordan K. Ellis and Andrew Huggins out of Charlotte) and I was the lead actor. They were looking for a mobile home to film in and my buddy happened to have one. As far as the Greater Cowpens area, otherwise known as Spartanburg County, I would say the industry is small but growing and I am excited to watch this happen and play a small role in its development."

What are your thoughts about working on a film here in the Upstate of South Carolina?

"It is exciting to see the film industry develop here in the Upstate and getting to be a part of that process."

Let's get into the history... How did you get your start as an actor?

"I started modeling in college and did some storytelling and living history type theatrical projects through the years. I was modeling and doing commercial work when I was asked to audition for a role in a short film that local director Tyler Peterson was producing. I wasn't sure that I was even qualified to audition, much less play the part, but I got the lead and was immediately hooked. It was a very dramatic part and a real challenge for me as a new actor, but I fell in love with it right away."

Who is your celebrity crush and why?

"It is a toss up between Jessica Lange, Goldie Hawn, and Michelle Pfeiffer. Well it's 2024 so can't I just have a crush on all three? Why? I mean look at them! Beautiful women, super talented. I think I just love that they have such a classic style... both physically but also in their acting performances."

Which actor/actress would you compare yourself to?

"Physically I am often compared to Martin Henderson, Patrick Dempsey, and Andrew Lincoln. From an acting standpoint, I would compare myself to Bill Bixby. I think that I have a seriousness but can also be humorous as well, and I see a lot of that coming from being a big fan of his growing up."

Who inspired you to become an entertainer?

"As an avid film/tv fan growing up this is hard to narrow down, but the first character I tried to act out or portray was Lou Ferrigno. I wanted to be able to turn into the Incredible Hulk so bad, I would tear my clothes and metamorphose into him in my yard as a kid. Of course, my body never grew into Lou Ferrigno, but acting is all about imagination, right?"

What aspirations do you have? Any specific projects, genres, or characters?

"I have been blessed to play many different types of characters in a variety of genres. I do aspire to be a lead in a feature film and that is on the calendar for the coming year, so I am excited to take on that challenge."

Tell us a little bit more about your character in All That Is Evil.

"My character, Henry, is dealing with a very challenging situation. He and his wife, played by the incredible Tammy Mattox (Chloe Anderson), have struggled to have kids and just when they are about to be blessed with a bundle of joy, all hell breaks loose in this little town.

That's all I can say because Silas James Rowland made my sign an NDA. I will say that Henry is challenged emotionally and physically in this film."

You've read the script... What do you think will excite audiences about All That Is Evil?

"While this is categorized as a horror, I think audiences are going to be drawn into the relationships that exist between the characters. Love, heartbreak, fear... all this is part of this film. It is scary... it is a thriller... but they will care about these people."
